What are the past winners up to?

A look at the winners of Fox's "American Idol" and what they've been up to since taking home the prize:

_ Kelly Clarkson: The big-voiced 26-year-old singer has released three albums since winning the first "Idol," selling over 25 million albums combined. Her name was immortalized in 2005 when Steven Carell screamed it out after getting his chest waxed in "The 40-Year-Old Virgin." Earlier this year, Clarkson headlined a series of live concerts with country superstar Reba McEntire.

_ Ruben Studdard: The 29-year-old crooner has released two records, including a gospel album: 2004's "I Need an Angel." Studdard has maintained his connection to "Idol" since winning the season finale in 2003. He performed during the sixth season finale and his song "Celebrate Me Home" was used as the official exit song during the seventh season.

_ Fantasia Barrino: The raspy-voiced 23-year-old singer — and single mother — has released two albums, "Free Yourself" and "Fantasia." In 2007, Barrino starred as Celie in the Broadway musical version of "The Color Purple." Barrino has announced she was cast in the same role for a planned big-screen take on the Oprah Winfrey-produced musical.

_ Carrie Underwood: The 25-year-old country crooner is arguably the singing competition's most successful winner, becoming a multi-platinum selling recording artist with her two albums, "Some Hearts" and "Carnival Rides." She was recently voted top female vocalist for the second straight year at the Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas.

_ Taylor Hicks: The 31-year-old Soul Patrol leader's self-titled post-"Idol" album sold 702,000 copies but didn't reach the 1 million mark or register a hit song, unlike previous "Idol" winners. Hicks will join the Broadway cast of "Grease" on June 6, playing Teen Angel in the revival of the popular musical.

_ Jordin Sparks: The 18-year-old singer's self-titled first album debuted at No. 10 on Billboard. Since winning the sixth season in 2007, Sparks performed the national anthem at Super Bowl XLII. Her single "No Air" — a debut with Chris Brown — peaked at No. 3 on Billboard. A recent throat injury forced her to cancel several shows on Alicia Keys' tour.

_ David Cook: The scruffy 25-year-old rocker from from Blue Springs, Mo., used an electric guitar, a grainy voice and a soulful gaze to overpower 17-year-old crooner David Archuleta during the seventh season finale, despite the fact the judges had declared the teen the favorite in the final round. What kind of record will Cook make? "A good one," he told reporters following his win.
