Shocked but not really?!

American Idol gave Paula Abdul's career a much needed boost..a resurrection if you will. Over the years, Paula has become as much a part of the show as Simon and Ryan.

AS the season's passed, we tolerated the guest judges ( some great, some not) but for many of us.. "the fourth judge" was too much. Now, we know why..a set up!

Paula was loopy but she is our Paula...@!
Who else will give the Idols that loving touch of encouragement? The thumbs up on wardrobe coordination? Who else has been there like Paula was?
I say cancel the whole damn'd thing.

Paula QUITS IDOLS......

Paula Abdul has announced on her Twitter feed, and Fox has confirmed, that she will not return to American Idol for another season.
Abdul gave notice through proper channels before posting on Twitter, according to a Fox spokesperson.
A source familiar with the negotiation says Abdul walked away from a 30 percent raise and an eight-figure deal. Below is the full statement from Abdul:

“With sadness in my heart, I’ve decided not to return to IDOL. I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all being a part of a show that I helped from day 1 become an international phenomenon. What I want to say most, is how much I appreciate the undying support and enormous love that you have showered upon me. It truly has been breathtaking, especially over the past month. I do without any doubt have the BEST fans in the entire world and I love you all.”

The full statement from Fox:
“Paula Abdul has been an important part of the American Idol family over the last eight seasons and we are saddened that she has decided not to return to the show. While Paula will not be continuing with us, she’s a tremendous talent and we wish her the best.”

Fellow judges Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell – who has said in the past that he does not want to do Idol without Abdul — are not commenting. Idol host Ryan Seacrest posted a response on Twitter: “I am shocked and saddened.”

New Jordan Sparks

I am still working through the HAWT cd cover

Tuesday, June 23, 2009

New Carly...perfect fit.

Consists of former American Idol contestant Carly Smithson, Marty O'Brien, and former Evanescence members Ben Moody, Rocky Gray, and John LeCompt.

The band's name is an allusion to Evanescence's 2003 album, Fallen.

In a Los Angeles Times interview, guitarist Ben Moody said that We Are the Fallen differs from Evanescence in that "everyone is equal" and that it has "more energy than Evanescence could ever muster." Rather than an album, the band will release a few songs about every eight weeks for a year and a half.

Finalist Scott MacIntyre rails against 'Idol' for cutting his finale duet

May 24, 2009, 07:48 PM | by Jennifer Armstrong

Categories: Television

American Idol finalist Scott MacIntyre is sounding off against the Fox megahit for cutting his planned dueling-pianos performance with fellow contestant Matt Giraud from last week's finale. "Perhaps Tatiana and Bikini Girl were more important after all," he jokes in his MySpace blog post. He reveals that the number -- which would've featured the piano men duking it out on Billy Joel's "Tell Her About It" -- was cut just hours before the live broadcast because Joel couldn't appear with them. "According to some of the producers who witnessed our rehearsal, it was the most exciting and memorable number of the entire Finale show," MacIntyre writes. "Over the last few days I have tried to reason this out every way possible, and it makes no sense to me why one of the most compelling and unique performances of the show would be cut simply because the original artist wasn't present." The 8th-place finisher says he was disappointed not to have truly gotten a memorable moment in the finale, but that producers have promised to make it up to him by having him back to perform next season.

Thanks to everyone for making this season enjoyable.
Thanks to Ellen for her country know-how.

Who is the next American IDOL??

Finale

Kris vs Adam: Neither of these guys were on my radar for top 5 let alone top 2. After 5 months, I have to say they both made a difference, took their own path to where we are today. Unlike most seasons, I could careless who wins, not that I am not a fan of either, but that they are both good at what they do and did to make this season one of the best Idols ever.

Adam Lambert

1)Mad World – this was the performance that put Adam on the map. I personally wasn’t sucked in but every blogger, news article and fox special loved Adam’s original performance of this song. Tonight’s dramatic entrance was straight out of a Bootayace concert. The man is an entertainer.

2)Change is gonna come – That was not one of my favorites by Adam but I did get goosebumps – I think it was a Clay Aiken flashback. The wailer made the song his own.

3)No Boundaries – The “winner’s song” has never been a favorite of mine ever. I guess it was good.

Again, It took me forever to get on the Adam train, I tried to get off a few times. The bottom line Adam made this season – Go Adam.

Kris Allen

1)Ain’t no sunshine – Kris’ first performance of the night was throwing down the gauntlet. He was not going to let Adam take the title easily. I don’t believe I liked this performance the first time around but dude has soul tonight.

2)What’s going on – 2 for 2. Simon said it was too laid back for the finale but (I can’t believe I am saying this). Like Adam, Kris did what he does best – stripping a R&B classic and doing what got him to the top in the first place.

3)No Boundaries – What that a young Bruce Springsteen? This show is far from over. If the voting is judged on tonight’s performances…either guy could take it.

Kris was the dark horse - I didn’t see him coming. He fought hard for this thang.

Winner: Based on the season ADAM!

Adam vs Kris

No, I did not call this final 2 back in January but all in all I wouldn't be mad which one takes the crown tomorrow.

Top 3

Top 3 : It’s almost over!!

What a season for American Idol. I would say one of the most entertaining ever. From Nick/Norman to Adam, from Ryan’s 2009 staircase intro to the introduction of Kara ( She has grown on me) and the wasted judges save. This IS American Idol….but...

I am not pleased with the top 3 , but not surprised. The judges predicted an all male finale back in JANUARY!! Hmm scammed again? It is a tv show.

Top 3

The addition of Kara, which added more time the judge chat, we only got 2 performances each instead of the usual 3. Since I don’t have a real favorite this season – it’s okay.

Danny – Dance little sister (Paula’s pick) Paula continues to annoy and confuse. Why this song, yes it was a moderate R&B hit in the early 90’s but a classic example of bad song choice. Maybe it was her favorite – who knows. I left the Danny train weeks ago. I guess it was okay.

Danny – “You are so beautiful” Started out weak, got better near the end. How he made top 10 is beyond me.

Kris – “Apologize” Kara/Randy’s choice. I am still trying to fiqure out why I know this song. Just okay.

Kris – “Heartless” Truly the surprise of the night. I laughed my butt off when he introduced the song. Then my laughter turned to confusion. I Listened to it twice. I give it a B+ for originality but not one of my favorites.

Adam – Cryin – Screaming is more like it. I guess if Steven Tyler can do it so goes Adam. ..just okay for me dawg.
Adam – “One” Simon’s pick- Minus the highpitched wailing, It was my favorite of the night..and that “aint saying much. Kudos for Adam for toning down the rock drag for one performance this season.

Who’s leaving ?? Dare I say Kris?
Anyone else would be a shocker.

I am ready..is she?

Tonight..Paula takes the stage. Does she sing? lipsynch, debut her video? She hasn't performed live since Vibeology in the 90's. Can she do it?

Top 4: Rock week !!!

Top 4 : Rock week w/ Slash!!

First the announcement of the idols not being able to rehearse then they switch up and sing duets…this could be an interesting show…but I wouldn’t know because the cable went out …on one channel. Argh!

Thanks to the internetZ, I get to watch the show without having to fastforward through the commercials and judges babble..not it’s my turn to babble on…DJRR style.

Adam (Whole lotta love) – It is so hard for me to decide if I want to stay on the Adam train. I am trying to get off but the train is moving. This night was all about Adam. I always favorited the rock Idols on the show. Bo Bice, Chris Daughtry and David Cook ..who? these fellas aint got nuttin on Adam for the rock title. What else is there to say, the noise, the outfit, the noise, the Elvis lips, the noise. Once again Adam is Adam doing Adam.
Will I buy Adam’s after Idol cd …no!
Is Adam the best singer ..no!
Was Adam one of the most entertaining performers in Idol history ..Hell Yeah. Rawk on!

Allison (Cry baby) – When did Ally become a contender? She too was comfortable with this theme. She did a great job – yes there were other song choices but she made it work.

Danny (Dream on) – If only this was a dream. I am going to steal a line from the net..please put the Go in Gokey and send him packing. I have to say that I didn’t think the song was THAT bad until he went ***there***..the Steven Tyler scream ! The dog covered his ears...that was enough to make me shake my head ...........please. Why?! Why? Hopefully we won’t find out next week. Bye bye bye!

Kris (Come together) – I guess it wasn’t bad. Kris did a better performance then Danny. I am sure he is safe this week. He “aint” the Idol but he made a good run.

The duets were better then I thought they would be. Adam/Ally – perfect rock performance. They had fun with it and I found myself caught up. Great great great !!
Unlike the Danny/Kris performance was like a tag, you’re it. Blah Bland..boring.
Going home??
Who may leave? Adam or Allison (based on prior weeks) Who Should leave? Danny..it’s time.

Top 5 The standards

Top 5: The “standards” from the RatPack with Jaime Foxx

How can someone who’s number one hit is “Blame it on the alcohol” mentor the Idols on the best of Dean, Frank and Sammy? Clearly, another cheap attempt by FOX to get ratings (oh yeah Jamie has a movie coming out). If I had known this before my 24 hour “LIL boycott”..I would still be on IDOL strike.

Kris – “The way you look tonight” Before the performance JF said we would be blown away (and not even know it). This “ain’t my genre” I thought it was country but it’s this one. (yawn). The song seemed long. The judges loved it – Simon compare him to a wet dog. I didn’t get it so -I will pass.

Allison – “Someone to watch over me” – Lil who? OMG, yes, yes yes..I am now awake. This kid blew it out the box and proved she should be in the top 5. Effortless. I won’t be mad if she won. If I had watched live /I would have voted. This is my favorite performance by Allison from the whole season. Ally Ally Ally..I may even buy the song for the autograph photo. She won me over…and the winner of American Idol SHOULD be……! (Eventhough!! Simon has moved his anti Lil critique on to Allison).

Matt – “My funny valentine” Leave it to IDOL to awaken my inner old man. I love this song and (may) have sang this in my past life. Matt started out very very weak on this number but the second half was OUTSTANDING. Goosebumps. I have 2 favorites tonight. Simon brought Matt to tears..with praise. Woot Woot. I have to check my notes..was Matt one of my early favorites?

Danny – “Come rain or come shine” Good performance but ..he is OVERRATED but his performance was better then Kris. I will repeat what I told a friend last week. Ya’ll like Danny on the IDOL show but “dude ain’t gonna sell any cds….Taylor Hicks” …make that vote count but for someone else.

Adam – “Feelin good” First, Ryan loaned out his prop staircase Adam. The dramatic entrance, the shiny white suit, stripper music and attitude…what more can I say. Adam does what he wants and enjoying his 15 minutes. I may need to watch this again before I push save. (okay I watched it 3 more times..DIV”O” wants votes) It’s a new life for Adam..he is gonna take this thing.

Favorite vocals: Allison & Matt
Favorite performance: Adam
Worst performance: Kris
Going home - (sadly) Matt

Idol top 7 part 2 : DISCO

With the judges save being used last week..Disco will send two finalist packing.

Lil – (I’m every woman - Chaka) The best thing about Lil’s performance is thatshe did not sound like Chaka or Whitney. 20 points for the hair because you know DJRR loves a good weave. Maybe we expected too much from Lil – she never claimed to be Jennifer Hudson or Fantasia( that’s something the judges wanted) , with that said I enjoyed her performance, and will be calling and casting my vote for the first time this season. Lil has been getting the judges shaft all season. Not saying she was the best…..but!

Kris – ( She works hard for the money – Donna) (PAUSE) Kris is holding a guitar for a DISCO number..this should be funneeee! (Press Play) Hmm, I might buy that for a dollar. Creative – I may have to give it up to ole Kris. Slowing down some Donna Summer to an acoustic jam was ….very good. I may have to ignore his lady pants.

Danny - (September – EWF) Pulease, Danny got praises for doing the EXACT same thing that Lil did. Double standard. Aint on the Danny train.

Allison – (Hot Stuff – Donna) Oh, her rawked (yes I meant to spell it that way) version of Hot stuff was definitely different. Not sure I liked it but a good performance. Loved the opening..loved the ending.

Adam – (If I can’t have you) Nope! What was that..okay the David Cook school of slowing down uptempo songs is dismissed. Did not like that but again, Adam did what Adam wanted to do. The judge’s spin machine was in full effect – it wasn’t THAT good. Kris was better than this.

Matt (Stayin Alive – Bee Gees) A good job but not enough to keep from going home tomorrow.

Anoop (Dim all the lights) Whassup with Anoop’s face? 3 snaps and a twist for the pink vest – minus for the wax job on the eyebrows (was that over the top?) He did a decent job…no a good job.

My favorite of the night has to be Kris and Anoop (both singing Donna Summer)

Not my personal choices but (maybe) going home Lil and Matt
Should …be going home Matt and ….Danny! (I said it).

Idol top 7: Songs from the movies

Idol Top 7: Music from the movies:

This week's theme for the top 7 Idol finalist is music from the movies.
Yet again Idol and Fox show hypocrisy by having Quentin Tarantino as a guest mentor. Yes, Quent is a good director and a bonified Idol maniac. My problem is with the constant excuse of perfecting the innocence of the Idol brand over the years – why are they promoting a man who’s movies can’t be watched by most of the viewers of American Idol and don’t want to be watched by most of the rest?

Allison (“I don’t wanna miss a thing” from the 1998 film Armageddon) This is truly one of my favorite Aerosmith songs ever . Ally didn’t make me forget the original but she did a good job. Simon adding that she is the only hope for the girls was just salt in the wound since Simon has been predicting the winner would be a dude since the pre show promos.

(Ooh Katie Couric in the audience) Since the show was bombarded by complaints that the show ran over last week abeit tivo and DVR recorders. Especially cutting of the perceived winner Adam – the judges chat was supposed to be condensed. Instead of all four judges battling for sound bites we just got 2 at a time.

Anoop (“Everything I do”by Bryan Adams) from 1991 flix. Robin Hood. Wow Anoop brought back the power ballad but he also brought back …the boys to men jacket/tie college frat boy combo. Dude. Anoop wisely chose not to follow Quent’s tips to turn this into a gritty R&B growl( you go Anoop) I have to deduct points for the fashion but I will be adding this version to the IPOD.

Adam (“Born to be wild”from Easy Rider) Alrighty then – this performance screamed gay Elvis on acid. Again, Adam does what the hell he wants and dared again to enjoy his 15 minutes. This is the performance everyone will be talking about this season. Adam is by far the star of the season.

Matt (“Have really ever loved a woman”) Didn’t know the song of the movie..that may have led to me being BORED! Bad song choice Scott..oops I meant Matt. Geez can he stay consistent? Justin Timberfake can rest easy. Even the audience didn’t argue when Kara and Randy blew him off -- Bottom 2.

Danny, Danny Danny – I had written off Danny weeks ago for being this season’s David Archuletta. Annoying! The glasses, the drama with the ring, the presumption that he is top 2..blah blah blah. Danny got my attention –THE ONLY WAY HE COULD. (Endless Love by Lionel Richie and the one and only DIANA ROSS) Let me pause this and see if I am wow’d (PAUSE)……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
Although, over the years I have hear many many artist screw up this song that most people know as a duet and try to perform it as a solo for that I give him a B.
Oh I get it..the wedding ring is back for dramatic effect because he was singing a love song for his wife. (gotcha..) Nope. Not wow’d.

Kris (Falling Slowly from the movie Once) I spent Kris’s performance, 1) rewinding the tape back to get the name of the song, then 2)goggling to get confirmation. Eeh! I guess it was okay, better then Matt’s ballad, better then Danny’s ballad..next….!

Lil ( The Rose by Bette Midler) Damn, now Whitney, No Dreamgirls, no Diana, no Celine, Streisand…I sound just like the judges. There were so so many power diva songs Lil could have chosen. Kudos for Lil, Lil has taken an unusual wrath from the judges for weeks. They want to change Lil but don’t chastise Adam. Lil did the song her way, wasn’t her best – was better than last week and if she leaves this week – I wouldn’t be terribly sad. That was a tough song.

No clear super favorite this week but Annop gets my top performance

Bottom three for me Matt, Kris & Danny

Top 8

American Idol 8 Top 8

This week’s theme is “ Songs from the year they were born”. Could have been called 80’s week.

Danny – (Stand by me) I am off the Danny train. The hype is over for me. Danny is not going to win against Adam so stop faking the funk. This performance was just okay for me. Not a fan.

Kris – (All she wants to do is dance) Kris was stellar last week but this week not so much. I am not a fan of this performing in the moshpit. Another okay performance – not sure that was a good song choice but just okay.

Lil – (What’s love got to do with it) When I first saw this I thought the judges were unusually harsh on Lil yet again. After a second watch – and a few conversations, I have to agree Lil was channeling Tina, with the short skirt and Tina walk. That said she did a good job but she is spending too much time worrying about what the judges think.

Anoop – (True Colors) Only Anoop could sing this song sporting a lime green Boys to Men sweater. I aint mad at dude for staying true to his goal of a R&B soulster. It was good – we have forgotten all about Beat it.

Scott – (Search is over) Besides sticking to my claim the man can see. I have nothing else to say. Especially since I am typing this after knowing Scott is outtie. Scott had a great ride this season- not sure how much was talent but kudos for making it to the top 8.

Allison – (Can’t make you love me) She is good and could easily slip past one of the dudes to make the top 2.

Matt – (Parttime love) I thought Mini JT was good but not as great as the judges said. I have no idea what last week was about but he is forgiven. Matt will be getting my favorite of the week.

Adam- (Mad world) Simon gave it a standing ovation. Adam will win this season because he is going to sing his song, the way he wants. He is enjoying his world stage and knows he doesn’t have to win this show to become a star.

Top 9: Whatever week?!

This week the IDOLS can do any song on the ITUNES top downloads listing. This could be good and bad.lol! Will I see some Britney.

Anoop – (Caught up - Usher) Anoop wants to be an R&B artist. I can’t wait for that cd. That said the vocals were very good but Noopdawp as making scary faces into the camera while wearing a scaled down version of Michael Jackson’s military jacket.

Megan Joy – (Turn your nights down low – Marley/Lauryn Hill) Oh hell no, Maybe her flu came back. I don’t get it. Her voice is shakey, she was shakey..it was boring.
Lauryn Hill will not be pleased. I finally watched the Hollywood week and she was outstanding, but the lights camera and big stage seemed to have changed her for me.

Danny – (Hurts the most – Rascal Flats)Distracted – as I watch Danny all I can do is look for the ring (or not) all the gals are in a tizzy about. The EXPENSIVE eyewear collection. Distracted. Thinking back to how good his buddy Jamar was and how he got booted purely for show drama. I may have to change my top 4. I am voting for Sanjaya. I am becoming less and less a Danny fan.

Allison – (Don’t speak – No Doubt)I am not feeling Allison this week.

Scott – (Just the way you are – Billy Joel) Stop playing..last week pink pants, this week his hair reminded me of the snow miser from that Christmas movie. Come on now, where is his handler. But it’s about the music right? Blah!

Matt – (Found me – The Fray) & Lil Rounds – (Surrender – Celine): Both of my favorites have forgotten the first rule of Idol. Once you make top 10, the judges – their comments, their being don’t mean jack. Both of these early contenders have lost the joy of the competition and fighting to please Simon? instead of the audience or themselves. Fingers crossed.

Adam – (Play that funky music – Wild Cherry) Adam is going to win this show because he could give a damn.! Adam knows he has a record deal and is going to have fun each and every week. The man reworked a classic tune – That white boy played that funky music …right.

Kris – (Ain’t no sunshine) That was Kris’ best performance ever. He knocked Matt and Danny out of the top. I may have to give Kris the best of the night award.

Top two : Adam and (damn it) Kris
Bottom three: Megan, Scott and (sigh) Matt

My audio must not be in sync with the video. Me and the judges are on opposite side this week. It is prob’ly part of that pre selected top 4 conspiracy. The best thing about this week’s show was the commercial…and the way the crowd turns on the judges was enjoyable.

Top 10: The Motown sound

American Idol : Top 10
The Music of Motown

I am not going to mention the annoying judges intro once again.

Looks like week 3 is going to be the most stressful with founder Berry Gordy and legend Smokey Robinson in audience.

I might as well tell you know – whoever performs a Diana Ross and/or Supremes song will be my favorite…just saying.

Matt – (Let’s get it on) Justin Timberfake may as well retire, there is a new white soul brother number 1. It looked like Paula thought Matt was singing “Let’s get it on” to her. He did such a great great job, I wanted to throw my panties on the stage.

Kris – (How sweet it is) Kris has this annoying yet goofy neck roll thing that is distracting. Boring, Blah, Yawh – didn’t like it. Kris has too much competition. He wont make top 4. Simon wants Kris to give more attitude. They gave Alexis the same advice and she got the boot. Yes, Kris get conceded.

Scott – (Can’t hurry love) Damn, I just knew he was going to sing some Stevie Wonder. The pink pants, daring but hey, he didn’t know…or did he? The man can see. I didn’t think Scott did a “terrible” job. It was good. I lied. Let me reword this. Who ever sings a Diana Ross/ Supreme’s song***THAT I LIKE……!

Megan – ( For once in my life) ?????!!! I am still getting the Ana Nicole vibe from Megan Joy. I am trying to feel this judge favorite. The dancing, the presence..Not a favorite for me.

Anoop – (Oh, Baby Baby) Go Ahead Anoop, sing Smokey’s hit song to his face. Anoop!Anoop!Anoop! Anoop lost some points on the members only jacket but dude wants to win this show. Bring it Anoop.

Mike – (Ain’t too proud to beg) Michael was known as Jeremy during the auditions and Hollywood so I will call him Jerry. He needs to beg for votes. Jerry said he was taking us going to take us to church…more like the church’s chicken parking lot. Maybe the Jim Baker/Tammy Faye variety show. Bottom two. My Alexis was let go over him??? (Hopefully..buh bye)

Lil – (Heatwave) Lil brought the SOUL of Motown to American Idol. A great tribute to all of the sixties soul divas. One of my favorites for the night!

Adam – (Track of my tears) I have finally gotten on the Adam bandwagon. The Elvis look, the suit, the voice… the acoustic rendition. Don’t make me say it ….I liked Adam this week….and I wrote that before Smokey gave the standing O. I am stunned, it was that good. Great great great!!!

Danny – (Get ready) Danny is resting on his hype and dang it..Adam, Matt and Anoop are going to pass him to the top. That said, the performance was okay, but no sparks for me. Lil was better then this.

Allison – (Poppa was a rollin stone)This was good but not one of my favorites. Obviously the judges weren’t overwhelmed, why else would Simon have time to draw on Paula’s face..pulease.

What a great week. Top 4 this week in no particular order Lil, Anoop, Matt…and yes…yes ADAM!
Bottom 3: Megan Joy, Scott and Jeremy Michael ...with Jeremy Michael getting the boot!
**********I wanted to share a response from my DJ friend Vin, Hilarious...
Let's get this over with shall we.
Anoop Desai actually holds a tune...somewhat. Not a fan, but warming up to him ever so slightly.
Matt Giraud appears to be the new Adam? Overhyped.
Michael Sarver, it's time to go back to the oil rigs, cowboy.
When Scott MacIntyre hit the screen, I dawned my headphones and watched Nelly Furtado's, "Promiscuous," on youtube until that trainwreck was over.
Lil Rounds gave another passable performance. "Heat Wave" always reminds me of Whoopi Goldberg in "Sister Act."
Allison Iraheta's performance was lukewarm at best, but a smashed note at the end gave the illusion that the performance good in it's entirety. Negative.

Onto Chatworthy Performances: Megan Joy Corkrey, Danny Gokey, Kris Allen, and...Adam Lambert.
Megan Joy Corkrey didn't have the best song choice for her voice, but dammit, she is the most beautiful American Idol contestant to EVER make it to the Top 10. After rewatching the performance, it was still enjoyable and the studio version will be even better. Megan came out on stage, walked behind the judges and stood on a platform that had the American Idol trademark hanging above while lights flashed and flickered behind her as she sung, "For Once In My Life," and...and it just felt right, Rob. It just felt right. Lol.
Kris Allen gave another solid performance. I don't see an American Idol in him, but I like him. And if he continues to give these technically sound performances while the other contestants cancel each other out, he can find himself in the finals. On a sidenote, the guitar is slightly awkward and bulky. Sometimes he resembles a toddler playing with a broom.
Danny Gokey is contagious. A fun loving guy who wants to dance, belt it out, and get the crowd moving...and he's good at it.
Oh boy, here we go: Adam Lambert. I appreciate that Adam gives American Idol viewers something to talk about over the watercooler. However, his interpretations of classic songs are too self-indulgent, not to mention the added over-the-top clichéd glances at the camera. Now, "Ring of Fire," I get it, we ALL get it...but do we like it? Majority says, "No." If Adam wants a chance of hearing those magical words from Ryan Seacrest, he has to find balance as did David Cook last season. David's interpretations of "Always Be My Baby," "Billie Jean," and "Hello" were all unique, true to his style, and had audience appeal without being, "All about David." Adam's performance of "Tracks of My Tears" was the smartest, strategical move he could have made. Resembling a heavier Elvis, and singing virtually acapella will entice those more conservative viewers to vote and almost guarantees his stay through next week. Now, his biggest concern is how to get back to the hot mess his true fans love without losing America's support. He has an uphill battle. Am I on the Adam Bandwagon? Far from it, but good performance on Wednesday.

Alexis: Gone too soon!

Alexis Grace: 'I never imagined myself going home that early'
By Kim Thai, USA TODAY

The American Idol judges could have saved Memphis soul singer Alexis Grace with the new twist in the rules, but they let her go after deeming her Grand Ole Opry week reprise of Jolene not quite good enough. We caught up with her during a conference call Thursday.

Q: What did you learn from your experience on American Idol?
A: If you want to do anything in life, you have to work hard at it and believe in yourself. And just have fun in whatever it is you have to do. You know, all the little cliché things you say.

Q: What did you find most challenging on the show?
A: Probably being away from my family, my daughter especially. I went from being a single mom and seeing her every day to not seeing her at all.

Q: Do you think the singer should be given a chance to sing any song during the save?
A: I'm going to be honest: Yes. I would have sang I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You). It's more of my element, would have showcased my voice more. I kind of didn't get to really remind them why they picked me.

Q: What did (contestants) think of this new twist in the game?
A: We actually think it's a good idea. It's there to help people who need a second chance.

Q: Did you feel better or worse that you were considered for the save?
A: I liked the fact that they were thinking about saving me because they believed in me. It was flattering. I wish I could have done a better job than I did. I don't know if they wanted to use (the judges' save) because it's still so early in the game. They probably wanted to use it later.

Q: Did you have another song you considered for country night?
A: I did consider doing a Carrie Underwood song, but I thought it would be too much Carrie Underwood in one night. So I went with Jolene because of its beautiful lyrics, and I love the singer (Dolly Parton).

Q: Who do you think the Idol winner will be?
A: I have no idea.

Q: How do you feel about not being able to go on the Idols Live tour?
A: I'm really disappointed about that. It would have been fun to do some duets with (the other contestants), but there will be other tours.

Q: Who would be your dream duet right now? A current artist?
A: Maybe Pink or Sarah McLachlan or Joss Stone.

Q: What kind of CD do you see yourself releasing?
A: Some kind of soul mixed in with blues and country. Maybe some Joss Stone mixed in with Carrie Underwood and Sheryl Crow. Something like that.

Q: How did it feel when you're standing up there and they say you're going home?
A: I was sad. I kind of had a feeling I was in the bottom three. I never imagined myself going home that early. I wanted to make it farther, at least.

Q: What was the conversation like backstage with your family?
A: They were probably more upset than I was. They are my biggest fans and biggest supporters, and they really wanted me to go far and believed that I could.

Q: The judges said to they wanted you to "dirty it up" and didn't give that advice to any of the other women. Why do you think they specifically wanted you to be that kind of persona?
A: They saw something in me in the beginning that was a little edgy, but I hadn't quite touched on yet. When I would sing, it would be like, "Wait a minute — that doesn't look right." I think that was what the whole "dirtying it up" was about.

Q: We saw there was a (farewell) party for (previously eliminated contestants) Jasmine Murray and Jorge Nuñez. Was there a party for you?
A: No, they were really busy last night. There wasn't one.

Q: You've had a really remarkable transformation. Are you going to keep the pink highlights?
A: I'll probably keep the pink highlights a bit; I've always been into the edgy look. I think that's what they liked about me, other than my singing.

Q: Is it bittersweet to be cut when it's country week?
A: I feel like I let my state down. I think I sing country pretty well. But I can redeem myself.

Q: How long do you think you'll be singing?
A: As long as I can. As long as I am still singing and walking around.

Q: When you were choosing songs for country, did you debate between choosing an old song vs. a new one?
A: I felt like everyone knew Jolene, and it's such a pretty song. You pick the songs that you think are going to work. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Q: What song were you going to try to sing next week for Motown?
A: I had a couple in mind, but it definitely would have been something different from what I have done.

Q: Who were you closest to in the top 13?
A: Megan (Joy) and Matt (Giraud). Matt cracks me up. He's hilarious and always making jokes. We're always having a good time together. Megan and I are pretty much the same. We already joked that on the tour, our son and daughter would be boyfriend and girlfriend.

Q: Do you have a message for your fans?
A: You guys rock. I don't want to disappoint you. I'm making music for you guys.

Q: Were you a little disconcerted that Randy (Jackson) didn't remember your name?
A: I think that was just his personality, maybe not because I'm forgettable. Hopefully.

Q: There are fewer men than women (among the finalists). Did you feel outnumbered?
A: Of course you do. You really have to do your part and show those little girls out there who are voting for the boys that, hey, we're here, too.

Q: How do you think the show helped you grow as an artist?
A: It's given me a lot of confidence.

Q: Any contact from record companies?
A: No, not yet.

Q: Are you going to be writing music?
A: Definitely.

Q: Had you thought about playing guitar with Jolene?
A: I thought about it, but sometimes you get nervous and mess up, and I was afraid of that.

Top 11: Country week ( with a guest reviewer)

Idol : Country week – Top 11

Week two in the world of Idol. I have to admit, I don’t feel qualified to review the kids performing country music this week.
DJ Robbie Rob only knows a handful of country tunes to compare.
Last Name by Carrie Underwood, Elvira by the Oakridge Boys and a few things by Dolly Parton.

I felt compelled to outsource portions this week to keep my street cred with the country folk.
I called on my good friend Ellen. Ellen knows all about the Brad Paisleys, Urban Kieths and Garth. She grew up on a farm, vacations in the woods and can light fire without a match - so she knows her country flava. (whisper: and she looks like Reese Witherspoon).
Ellen is going to make a few notes on her favorites from tonight’s episode.

So, the judges entrance IS going to happen EVERY week? Damn! Did anyone else wish Ryan falls down the staircase like Beyonce? Just kidding?

COUNTRY MUSIC WEEK..Hee Haw! This week’s mentor Randy Travis.

Michael – “Aint going down till the sun comes up” – Too bad for Mike, this isn’t country idol..oh wait there is a show called Nashville Star. Michael did a good job, he was more confident, relaxed and had more fun then last week. I don’t agree with Simon’s 1.5 on the 1-10 scale but then again, why waste my time on the judges and Paula’s cleve?
Ellen: It's always easy to tell the best country singers by the ones that are able to somehow sing all of the lyrics and crazy melodies without you even realize how difficult it is. That said, several of tonight's contestants did not make the original performers proud. Michael Sarver was one of them--I'm not sure he did right by Garth. (And I like Michael.) This is too bad because it was really Michael's week to shine. This guy has "country music" written all over him.

Allison –“Blame it on your heart” – I believe the young’en turned that country song into a rock number. I sorta liked it. A toe may have tapped.
Ellen: Allison did better. If I listened to it without watching it, I'd say she did a nice job, but she's too young to be singing that song. Too bad she couldn't sing something by Taylor Swift, a singer more her age. I would have loved Allison to rock out to "Picture to Burn." [Robert, great song, check it out...] (And she couldn't pick Taylor Swift because she hasn't been inducted into the Grand Ole Opry yet.)

Kris – “To make u feel my love” – I was all set to rag on Kris hiding behind his guitar then he doesn’t bring it. Now what am I going to complain about? I guess it was good. Way way better then last week.
Ellen: Kris: Married or not, this guy's a heartthrob...and that was a good song choice. It's old enough that most people don't remember it to compare it to the original, but it's also relevant enough that it resonated with today's audience.

Lil – “Independence Day” – Lil said she wanted to honor the country flava of her song. Randy Travis was pleased. I actually waited for the judges before I wrote. But the judges were a little too tough on Lil (which is short for LILLIAN no Little..). I actually must research to see what past “power divas” succeeded with on country week. Did they actually suggest Lil sing I will always love you, after all of these years of belittle the ones that do? Did I like it? Umm Ellen..
Ellen: Lil Rounds: I have not been a huge fan of Lil's yet, but tonight she really knocked one out of the park. This woman is no-nonsense, which I love. She was able to take a country song and give it a little rock-and-roll, a little gospel, and a little pop vibe. She was smart to pick Martina McBride...another woman who can absolutely sing.

Adam – “Ring of fire” – Randy Travis said and I quote “ I don’t know what to do with that boy”..lol
OMG?! Okay, I aint seeing it. Last week I listened to the mp3 and enjoyed it without the video. I ran into 101 Adam fans this past week…that made me go into this week open minded. I may have to close it again. I quote Randy Travis again “Speechless”. Ellen likes Adam..can’t wait to read this.
Ellen: Adam is not a performer suited for country week, which he has admitted. And it's lucky for him this week came when there are still lots of contestants in the bottom to go home--because otherwise, he would have. That was just painful. Yes, it was an "artistic" performance, but maybe I'm just too concerned that he was ruining Johnny Cash.
( DJ Robbie Rob: You know I’m laughing right)

Scott – “Wild Angels” – Scott can see. That’s all I got, I won’t be the one criticizing the blind man.
Ellen: Scott: Like the haircut. Good song choice. I don't see him in the bottom three.

Alexis –“Joleen” – Ut oh, it’s too soon to repeat a song that was performed last year but she did it. Alexis’ version was much better the Brooke’s from last year. I liked it. I like her (but not as good as last week).
Ellen: Alexis: I'm not a fan of that song choice--it was boring and it didn't do enough to show her range. I wasn't terribly impressed.

Danny – “Jesus, take the wheel”. That was Blah for me. Maybe it’s my disconnect from country music (which is sad since I grew up in Ga). The judges said brilliant. Now when I hear the judges responses I immediately think of the new scandal or a pre selected top 4. Won’t spend $1.05 this week on anyone.
Ellen: Danny: Next to Lil, this was the best song choice of the night. How can you not vote for a church music director who's singing a song about Jesus?

Anoop – “You’re always on my mind” Oh, I know this song. Come on Anoopdawg. You almost went home last week bring it. Ut oh..wait for it. I liked it. So far Anoop is my favorite of the night ( and that aint saying much..lol) ! …Simon agreed. ( I am a bit teary eyed ) I can’t go on..I can’t go on. Anoop, Anoop..Anoop. This is proof positive that this show changes week to week. I will buy one song this week and this is it.
Ellen: As for Anoop, I'm a country fan, and even I don't know what he was singing. Buh-bye, Anoop. Fun knowing you. Hope UNC makes it farther in the NCAA pool than you did on American Idol.
DJ Robbie Rob: Ellen, you are so getting this song on your voicemail tomorrow. Work, house and cell. This performance brought tears to my eyes..in a good way unlike last week.

Megan – “I go walking after midnight” – She was looking HAWT but I was getting an Ana Nicole Smith vibe. Her voice seemed shaky. Oh wait, they said she had the flu and went to the hospital earlier..Nevermind..! You go Gurl.
Ellen: Megan seems totally out of her element. Maybe in the 40's she could have recorded a good album. I keep waiting to hear the little record scratch while she's singing--it is that old-fashioned. She did look great.

Matt – “So small” – Yet another dude, trying to take on Carrie Underwood. I would agree with Simon. Tonight, Matt was better then Danny!!
Ellen: Matt: While I liked Matt's performance almost as much as Danny's, I still don't prefer him. Danny sings with more heart. What Matt has going for him, of course, is this whole bit with the piano...though, since this is a singing competition, I don't know that the pianist ability is going to win it for him. I am a fan of piano bars, though, and see Matt continuing to improve throughout this competition, so maybe he's got some surprises in store for me.
Ellen: My bottom three: Megan, Adam, Anoop, with Anoop going home.

Ellen, thanks so much for contributing, it was fun. You are truly a little bit country and I “ain’t”.
I would like to ask you to make yourself available for Janet Jackson week. ~ DJRR
PS I think Michael is headed home.

Scandal : Producers have already picked the final 4

Report says Fox producers have already picked 'American Idol's' final four

According to an "American Idol" staff member, this season's top four contestants have already been picked by the show's producers, despite the fact viewers are supposed to vote for winners and that there are still 11 contestants in the running.

The New York Daily News reported Tuesday that a "female 'AI worker" has told several people that the show's producers picked Danny Gokey, Lil Rounds, Adam Lambert and Alexis Grace to be the final four.

Furthermore, the unnamed employee (no, it's not Paula Abdul) said "Idol's" higher-ups were keen on making sure two of those final four don't win it all, said the Daily News.

"Adam Lambert and Lil Rounds are better singers and musicians than Gokey and Grace, but they're too much like past winners," the employee told the Daily News. "Adam's too close in style and sound to Chris Daughtry, while Lil Rounds is a dead ringer for Fantasia."

Meanwhile, she added, Gokey's story of the death of his wife, Sophia, during heart surgery a month before his audition is "a huge reason viewers are tuning in."

"American Idol" has weathered similar allegations in the past — they're actually too numerous to list here — and Fox-TV officials, who have declined to comment on the story, are no doubt counting on the new allegations to flow into the flotsam and jetsom of "American Idol" lore.
And, noted a skeptical insider at "American Idol," "There'd have to be so many people lying for them (producers)

MICHAEL JACKSON WEEK!!!

The TOP 13 : Michael Jackson week : the performance

Top 13: Michael Jackson week,
the KING of Pop.

It has taken me a minute to get excited about American Idol this season – Paula’s quitting talk, the extra judge, kicking off finalists…it was too too Idol.
Needless to say the first “real” show testing the kids with songs from Michael Jackson got me back on board..it’s on.

Introduction of the judges (yawn), It aint about them, lets get on with the reason we all watch.

Lil Rounds – (The way you make me feel) ~ is it too early to say she is my favorite to win? I haven’t even heard the other 12 – I’ve skipped most of the season to date but Lil is a “Superstar” in the making. Fun, talented and commanded that stage. She has already won in my book, she was as good as David Cook owning Billie Jean last season. I may have to vote. Simon reminded me why I think the judges are irrelivent at this point and really now until May, they should been seen and not heard. Go Lil!!!

Scott MacIntyre
– (Keep the faith)~ How am I supposed to critique the blind guy playing the piano? Kudos for getting this far and I predict NOW he will go far on likability. The performance was okay – the song is more churchlike on the cd but I won’t be the one saying anything bad about the blind guy..at least not yet.

Danny – (PYT)~ I wasn’t ready..wait,.. 3 performances in and I have two favorites. I am already looking for the download on the internetz. Great great great. Danny gets my Elliot Yamin underdawg pick of the season. This man came to sang.

Michael – (You are not alone)~ You can’t “country fry” Michael Jackson. My joyride came to a screeching halt. I may have to play PYT again to get over this one. I didn’t think it was that good. I noticed the judges were a too nice..and it was ackwardly noticeable. He needs a country/broadway week real soon… Bottom 3.

Jasmine
– (I’ll be there)~ The number one and two rules of IDOL, stay away from songs previously recorded by Mariah or Whitney. It was good but not great but not bad.

Kris – (Remember the time)~Bye! He wasn’t the worst but he was just Blah for me.

Allison – (Give in to me)~ Most folks won’t know how great that performance was. This was one of MJ’s hidden rock gems and she did a good job.

Anoop - (Beat It)~ Ut oh…Nobody does “Beat it” like Michael…Ouch, No..Whoa, Wow. Anoop got it from the judges and I actually agreed. I was wondering if someone would do this song – it wasn’t a request.

Jorge – (Never can say goodbye)~ Maybe Anoop wasn’t that bad. And Jorge may be saying goodbye. I just noticed this show is too long tonight. Another bad song choice.

Megan – (Rockin Robin)~ OMG! I know I should have stopped and hour ago. This was not good at all. The crow call at the end really was not cute. Michael was 8 when he recorded this..Nuff said.

Adam – (Black or White)~ I am doing my “Oh no Home Alone impression” (He was in the video)..What was that? It brought Paula to tears..I didn’t get it. I didn’t like it..don’t understand the praise..this has to be a joke. Dude was screeching, screaming and wailing….and they liked it? It maybe the end of the DJRR Idol update because I have truly lost my ear. ** I went back after the show ended and watched again…still don’t like it.

This would be a good time to add another note, still not feeling the 4th judge.

Matthew – (Human Nature)~ when dude began, I thought he was Justin Timberfake and in this case that a good thing. This show could end on a good note. He did a great job.

Alexis – (Dirty Diana)~ Who that is?? She sang that better then Michael!I want this version on the IPOD by this morning. Great.
This was actually one of the best IDOL shows in a long time. I may stick around for another few weeks. - until next time, DJRR

The Road to the top 12....eeerr 13!!

We're in Hollywood....and it ended in the Judge's mansion!?!

Hollywood…..
Wow, I am at a disadvantage or advantage, I am catching up on the prior shows after the real competitions has began. The prospective idols got first ever boot camp. “Glam squad”, vocal coach and motivation by Barry Manilow. This has always been the week that shows the judges as idiots. How did most of these folks get to Hollywood in the first place?
I just realized that Jason Castro’s brother did NOT make the top 13. Can’t wait to see how that happened. That has to been good tv.
I don’t know what to say about Nick/Norman and the fact that I know he made it further is hilarious…and troubling. Where is the credibility? He was funny tho’ but this aint comedic idol.
Danny , Lil shined from the start. They came ready. Bikini girl…came on for 15 minutes..and we are going over by 5. She is kinda cute but not. Thanks GOD she didn’t make top 12.
Hollywood: Round II
Matt and Kris were in the same group as white chocolate?
Nick and Jorge in the same group
Lil sweet Jasmine and Bikini girl in team DIVA. Bikini girl is going into double overtime – too much air time, I am sure she will have her own reality show this fall.
Tatiana, Tatiana, Tatiana
Adam truly shined during the group competition.

Round III
Stand outs - better or for worst.
Adam
Matt
Alexis
Jasmine
Tatiana
Nick/Norman

Round 4: The Judges Mansion- can it be any more grandious? The four judges sitting in the huge red chairs to make the final cuts. This season has put the focus (unfairly) on the lame judges. The focus is the Idols and the American public.
Watching this episode…a month after the original airing was bitter sweet. Seeing the joy and excitement of those who have already been booted is wrenching but more over the insecurity of the top contenders before they hit the big stage is great tv.
The sing off…a waste of air time.
Lil, Adam, Anoop, Alexis….!
· How did Danny make it and not Jamar..nothin but drama.
· Did they make all of the blond gals put red streaks in?
· Norman/Nick threatened to become the new bikini girl – is that why he made it? He is funny but damn!
· Tatiana – ANNOYING! Paula gave her the ring off her own hand..the girl was speechless …for a second.
· Michael is so nice, likable and a decent singer..I feel bad about future postings

The Auditions: the good~ the bad~ and the hilarious

I'm back beeeyatches........
