DJRR's pick for this week's top ladies

American Idol: Top 8 Gals

For most of the previous seasons our judges frowned on the contestants daring to sing a song from one of the “power divas” Whitney, Mariah & Celine. That all changed a few years back when LaToya London powered “all by myself”. That may have opened the door, although we see very few wannabe Mariah’s – this week, the gals and Chakizie dared to tribute Whitney Houston and I liked it.

Asia’h showed Luke what a “fun” song should sound like with Whitney’s I wanna dance with somebody. Simon said it wasn’t better the original..umm duh? Great job.

Amanda aka (former) Scary nurse toned down the hair and makeup and was HOT HOT HOT. Didn’t know the song but she rocked it. Absolutely my favorite performance from the week guys and gals.

Unlike David Hernadez (stripper boy) – my Ramiele fell off her game, she actually was upset about her scandalous? Photos hitting the web and it showed in her lackluster performance of “take a look at me now”. Hopefully she can get it together next week.

After 7 seasons, the top vote getters seem to be the ones who rearrange the song entirely and make it work.

Brooke took another one of my 80’s favorites “Love is a battlefield” to the acoustic level and slowed it down and made it work. 2 thumbs up.

Who would DARE sing the song that put Whitney on the map? Syesha made me flash back to the 80’s hearing this song for the first time in the halls of the school of the arts. I liked it for sentimental reasons, daring to do a Whitney and making it work. - DJRR
